Essays play a huge role in the college application season. You are going to be writing one for just about every college you apply to. So here are a few quick tips to help you prepare the necessary essays.
- Provide what they are asking for – Not providing the exact type of essay the application calls for is a common mistake that is made with application essays. The prompt will tell you what they are looking for and often even provide details like a maximum word count. Read the instructions carefully and follow them.
- Gather your thoughts and write them down – You can even divide this into two steps. First, get your ideas together. What life experiences or things you are passionate about that will fit the description? Then get some of those ideas down on paper and see which ones are flowing the best.
- Start writing! – You’re not going to send in your draft, so it doesn’t have to be perfect. It just has to get done so you can start revising it! The sooner you get the first draft out of the way, the more time you have to work on it (without rushing).
