Where Can You Get Financial Aid for College Besides FAFSA?

The Free Application for Federal Student Aid is the number one source for free money for college. That is why we talk about it so much in our blog. However, there are alternative sources for student aid. So we are going to dedicate today’s blog to other ways you can obtain free money for college.

  • University scholarships – The university that you are applying to may offer additional scholarships besides that money that is awarded through FAFSA. Be sure to apply for any scholarships that you qualify for and remember that you may continue to be eligible for new scholarships during your college experience.
  • Local scholarships – Whether it is through your high school or some local community programs, see if there are other scholarships available to you. They may not provide as much money, but there may also be less competition for these local scholarships.
  • Crowdfunding – Plenty of websites like GoFundMe allow a person to set up crowdfunding for just about any reason. You can tell people how much money you need for college and why. You never know – a wealthy benefactor may just happen to see your request and provide what you need. Just be sure to be honest. Fraudulent crowdfunding schemes can result in criminal prosecution.
