Liesl Testwuide has read thousands of essays while evaluating college applications in admissions for the University of Virginia. She believes the keys to a great essay are authenticity, emotional connection and a topic of consequence that has personal meaning to the student.

Although Liesl has lived on both coasts, she currently resides in Wisconsin. A mother of three sons, Liesl understands both students’ and parents’ anxiety surrounding the college application process since she has lived it with her own boys.

Liesl began her career as a high school English teacher after graduating from the University of Wisconsin and obtaining her M.A. in English from Marquette University. Liesl enjoys writing creative nonfiction and her work has been featured on TodayHuffington PostMSNE!, U.K.’s Daily Mail, and translated into over 20 languages. If she’s not reading one of your essays with her dog, Olive, at her feet, Liesl is exploring destinations from her ever-growing bucket list.
